Massage Services

We offer a variety of massage therapies including Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Shiatsu.

Swedish Massage Therapy

Swedish massage uses a variety of massage techniques designed to relax muscles by applying pressure to them against deeper muscles and bones, and rubbing in the same direction as the flow of blood returning to the heart. The focus of Swedish massage is general relaxation, stimulation of circulation, enhancing muscle tone and is also therapeutic in reducing muscle tightness.

Swedish massage enables strained muscles to recover faster by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. Circulation increases without increasing stress on the heart. Swedish massage stretches the ligaments and tendons keeping them supple and pliable. It also stimulates the skin and nervous system and soothes the nerves themselves at the same time. It reduces stress, both emotional and physical, and is used in programs for stress management. It is also used with medical recovery treatments.

Swedish massage therapy feels wonderful, and relaxes and invigorates your body! It affects the nerves, muscles, glands, and circulation, while promoting health and well being.

Deep Tissue Massage Techniques

Deep Tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep Tissue massage uses many of the same movements and massage techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the massage therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as “adhesions.”)

Deep Tissue massage is invigorating and therapeutic. Tense or stressed muscles block oxygen and nutrients which can cause inflammation and the build-up of toxins. Deep Tissue massage helps relax muscle tissues, release toxins, and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. After your Deep Tissue massage, it’s important that you drink plenty of water to flush out these toxins from your body.

Shiatsu Massage Therapy

Shiatsu is a Japanese healing art. Literally translated Shiatsu means “finger pressure.” Shiatsu is firmly rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), originating in China about 500 BC. Acupuncture, herbalism, and several types of massage were essential techniques of TCM. By the 6th century AD, the Japanese had incorporated their own ideas into TCM and developed a therapy called anma, which is the basis for Shiatsu massage therapy.

Shiatsu massage therapy applies pressure on certain points in the body to stimulate and balance the body’s vital energy flow (“Ki” in Japanese) in order to promote good health. If there is a blockage to the flow of Ki in your body, you will likely become physically or emotionally ill. Shiatsu massage therapy works to:

  • clear toxins from the body
  • release tensions from the muscles and joints
  • calm the nervous system
  • stimulate the body’s healing abilities
  • increase circulation and promote the flow of lymphatic fluid
